Anssi Muurimäki
R&D Engineer, Paper and Board
My name is Anssi Muurimäki and during the following year I will write blog posts about my new position at Weidmann Electrical Technology. I am a freshly graduated paper engineer from Finland and started working for Weidmann in Rapperswil, Switzerland at the beginning of November.
At the end of summer I applied for an open paper engineer position at Weidmann Electrical Technology. The interview was held in Rapperswil at the end of September. Already during interview day I had the pleasure to meet plenty of Weidmann professionals, who gave me a positive first impression of Transformerboard production and research. Therefore, I was more than happy when I was chosen to become a paper and board development engineer at Weidmann.
At the end of October I packed my belongings in Finland and moved to Switzerland to join the Fiber and Board laboratory team at Weidmann Electrical TEchnology. A new application engineer for Weidmann Fiber Technology started simultaneously and we have shared some of the orientation activities during first weeks. Weidmann Fiber Technology is a new branch of Weidmann and focuses on production of microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) and development of its applications.
My upcoming projects will orient around the development of Transformerboard. As a paper engineer, my knowledge of electrical insulation is very limited. Thus during orientation I have learned a lot about the basics of electrical technology and electrical insulation systems. Orientation has truly been much more than just slideshows in meeting rooms – I have visited different laboratories and production facilities of Transformerboard and insulation components, in our own Fiber and Board laboratory I have received hands on education to operate the laboratory devices and in our chemical & mechanical lab we have learned about the options available to us on how to handle the equipment. All along I have had the pleasure to meet experienced professionals who are very openly sharing their expertise with me.
As my German skills are under development, the orientation has been multilingual. German, English and a lot of mixed language have all been necessary to understand topics of the discussions. People of Weidmann have been helpful and eager to make my start as smooth as possible. Everyone at Weidmann has been open for later questions at anytime. I have truly felt welcome.
Write You again soon,
Anssi
